Appleseed is an excellent movie.  I don't know much else so it may very well be a series.

There have been two movies thus far.  The first one was already a sight to behold and was actually rather well done.  My only complaint is that the main character is too powerful.  I personally like to see some sort of a struggle with main characters.  Spike had this a few times but it wasn't enough.  Appleseeds main character is the same way.

Either way the movies are great and are worth a watch.
